Lack of transparency for members urged Anthem to create mechanisms and dashboards that provided users with powerful tools at their fingertips. Benefit Insights offers tools to manage the future cost of care.
This consumer facing experience offered three major advantages: Benefit search (Am I covered?), Provider search (Who can I see?) and Cost estimation (How much will I owe). Using a third party like Sensentia for benefit search was offered as a natural language search option that simplified descriptions of procedures mapped to benefits. Also the users key plan benefits were clearly outlined and they could input the actual procedure CPT Code for an estimated cost of care prior to having any procedure. This project was rapidly prototyped, pitched to internal senior leadership teams and designed for feature MVP discovery.
